Touch pads for professional use Cisco

The U.S. company Cisco Systems, a leading provider of VoIP solutions in the world, announced the development of two new devices whose use will be based on touch screens:

  • a control device for domestic appliances
  • and a touch pad oriented videoconferencing.

Unlike most current trends, Cisco positions its supply in the professional sector.

ICSU has an Intel Atom (x86) and uses the Android operating system. Weighing 520 grams, it comes with a set of applications dedicated to streaming, video conferencing, consultation documents or emails and will interact with corporate data.

The device will offer a touch screen of 7 inches, with a 5-megapixel sensor and a webcam that can record videos up to 720p.

Compatible WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G, it should offer a maximum range of 8 hours and will be accompanied by a cradle-shaped phone.

Cisco will market also has a second touch pad, the Home Energy Controller (HEC), designed to control home automation devices.

HEC will have a 7 ​​inch touch screen, an Atom processor at 1.1 GHz, 512 MB ​​RAM, flash memory and a dedicated controller WiFi. Equipped with the MID version of Ubuntu Linux distribution, the HEC should allow remote control switches, thermostats and other equipment with an infrared system.

The marketing of two tactile devices from Cisco is announced for the first quarter of 2011, for a price below $ 1000. A rate that the decision confirms Cisco not to propose a range of products available to the general public.
